Howard Stern Show staff ‘fight for more severance pay’ after mass layoffs
After recent layoffs from the Howard Stern Show, many of the employees who received severance packages declined them after they allegedly amounted to one week of pay per year worked.
An alleged non-disclosure agreement (NDA) was attached to the packages, but some employees didn’t sign them as they asked for more money, one insider claimed. Earlier this month, SiriusXM issued layoffs to some employees of the famed radio host’s show after it was revealed that the station’s marquee talent would do only one live show a week.
This came after one of Stern’s co-hosts, Rahsaan Rogers, shared that he was leaving the station after 16 years working there.

“Some people are still negotiating their exit packages,” a source told the US Sun. Another source claims that others were able to negotiate more money after a back-and-forth with SiriusXM’s HR executives.
Responses to the layoffs have been mixed with some employees being caught off guard while others reportedly said “the writing was on the wall.” The source added, “Staff knew these layoffs were coming.”
More than a dozen staffers were let go, including five on-air hosts like Rogers. The show veteran took to LinkedIn to announce the news earlier this week, writing, “After 16 incredible years with The Howard Stern Show and the Howard Stern Channels, I’m opening a new chapter.”
“I got to interview people I grew up admiring, direct live broadcasts in real time, and mentor some seriously talented producers along the way,” he continued. “To everyone I worked with over these 16 years: thank you. What a ride.”
Stern has a locked-in contract with SiriusXM through 2028, but many fans of the Stern show have been canceling their subscriptions amid the title host announcing the show would be reduced to once a week. Stern and his main co-host, Robin Quivers, started together on the radio in March 1981 before working their way up and eventually making a $500 million move to Sirius in 2006.
Since then, Stern’s show schedule has been whittled down over the years, from four days a week to three, and the most recent announcement of a once-a-week, three-hour show.
At this time, Stern is on his extended summer hiatus; however, when he returns in September, fans will experience his scaled-down schedule.
