Community note slaps down JD Vance’s rent claim

Vice President JD Vance was hit with a Community Note after claiming that rents are “falling for the first time in a decade” under President Donald Trump because the administration is removing people who should not be in the country.Vance made the remarks Monday at Compotech in Brewer, Maine, during a campaign-style appearance to promote Trump administration policies and Maine Republicans. The rally was designed to give Susan Collins a boost in Maine, yet she refused to show up.

The Community Note correctly noted that U.S. rents are rising, not falling as Vance claimed. Many rental measures show rents continuing to rise, meaning there is no clear nationwide plunge supporting Vance’s characterization.

Trump campaigned on affordability and specifically on improving the housing crisis. His administration is now attempting to run on promises that have largely failed to materialize for voters, despite their claims.
