Man allegedly spent $2,400 on drinks, food and swag at luxury resort — then put it on stranger’s tab
Local police say they began investigating the spending after a hotel guest complained about a mysterious $900 charge to her room

A Fla. man has been charged for allegedly going on a spending spree at a hotel and spa before attempting to pass off the tab on another guest.
The Tampa Bay Times, The Miami Herald, and local CBS 12 reported that police arrested 26-year-old Malachi Ethan Keasler on Saturday for his spending spree at the Cheeca Lodge & Spa in Islamorada, Fla., last year.
According to the Times, police were called to the resort after a woman staying there as a guest was asked to pay more than $900 in charges to her room that she said she did not consent to.
After investigators began looking into the origin of the charges, the outlet reported that officials discovered a total of $2,419 worth of charges for “drinks, food, shirts, hats and other sundries,” which allegedly traced back to Keasler.
The Clearwater, Fla., native was taken into custody on Saturday and was charged with grand theft, possession of another person’s identification and scheme to defraud, according to the Herald. The newspaper reported that a 24-year-old woman, Emma Camille Wallace, was also arrested last December in connection with the case.
CBS 12 reported that hotel security worked with detectives from the local Monroe County Sheriff’s Office to allegedly trace the spending back to Wallace and Keasler.Keasler is no longer in custody at the Monroe County Jail, according to inmate records reviewed by PEOPLE this week.
