Man shoots girlfriend of 26 years ‘through the head’ because she refused to pay him $300,000 for house after they broke up: Cops
A 74-year-old Florida man is accused of shooting his longtime girlfriend in the head while they were driving because she refused to sell her house after they broke up.
Alan Barber is charged with second-degree murder in the death of his 74-year-old girlfriend Barbara Susdorf.

According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by Law&Crime, Barber called 911 around 11:30 a.m. Saturday to say he had shot his girlfriend while he was driving in the 4100 block of E. Fowler Avenue.
When cops arrived at the scene, they found Susdorf dead in the front passenger seat from a gunshot wound to the head. The passenger window was partially blown out.
Cops recovered a gun and took Barber into custody.

After receiving his Miranda rights, Barber told cops that he and Susdorf had been in a relationship for over 25 years and lived together in a house in her name, according to the affidavit. He allegedly said that they had been arguing recently and “repeatedly expressed a mutual desire to break up.”
But the couple apparently disagreed about what to do with the house. Barber said he felt “entitled” to the $300,000 he had already paid toward the house, the probable cause statement said. According to Barber, Susdorf “refused to sell the house and pay him anything,” prompting the defendant to threaten to shoot the victim, the affidavit stated.
The two went out to lunch on Saturday, but they allegedly began arguing when the victim refused to give him a dollar for the tip. They continued to argue when they got into Barber’s truck and started to drive home, cops wrote.
As he was driving, Barber allegedly handed Susdorf a holster with his gun inside. Barber kept insisting that the victim sell the house and pay him $300,000 but she “called him an idiot and said that she wasn’t going to pay him a dime,” authorities said. She threw her cup at him, per cops.
Barber said he told her that if she didn’t pay him the $300,000, he was going to “blow her f—ing head off,” the affidavit stated. Susdorf picked up the gun and Barber said, in essence, “You don’t even know how to use the f—ing thing,” investigators wrote.
The defendant allegedly took the gun from her, removed it from the holster and pointed it at her head.

Barber reportedly said that he “snapped.” He fired a shot “through the head,” the affidavit stated.
Cops took Barber to the Hillsborough County Jail, where he remains without bond.
“Violence is not the answer to conflict, and there is never a disagreement that should end with the tragic loss of a life,” acting Tampa Police Chief Brett Owen said in a statement. “This man chose to end an argument by using a gun, and he will now face justice for his decision.”
