Fox News viewers fume ‘this is disturbing’ as Donald Trump halts Florida rally over eye issue

Donald Trump has continued to raise concerns about his health during his midterm campaign rallies.

After arriving late to a rally in Daytona Beach, Florida, that aired live on Fox News, the 80-year-old president appeared to have difficulty keeping one eye open. With just days remaining before voters head to the polls, Trump momentarily interrupted his speech to dab his eye with water. Speaking to the audience, he said, “Do you mind? I got a thing in my eye – watch this.”

The tissue brought some comfort to Trump, who added, “Ah, that’s so much better.” He then flung the water glass behind him and anticipated the media coverage that would ensue.

Trump then admitted, “I wish I had a little eye drops, but if I did, they’ll say ‘he’s seriously ill, there’s something wrong with him.'” The audience chuckled alongside Trump and appeared untroubled by the disruption.

Nevertheless, Fox News viewers didn’t seem to find the situation as humorous as the crowd and Trump himself. After a video from the event was posted on X, one user wrote, “Good lord! They need to get grandpa off the stage. He is losing it.”

Another said, “I think I have eye drops in every pocket of every coat and jacket and in all my purses. I have pale blue eyes, so they’re a necessity. Trump doesn’t forget his spray tan and hairspray, but forgets something important.”

A third wrote, “Oh, we know there’s something wrong with him,” prompting someone else to point out, “Imagine if Joe Biden acted like this. This is disturbing.”

“OMG. This man is not the comedian he thinks he is. He’s seriously declining,” a fifth viewer slammed. While a sixth asked, “Did he [for real] just wipe a patch of his bronzer off & just leave one of his eyes a different color?”The midterm elections take place every four years, halfway through a sitting president’s four-year tenure. They occur on Election Day, which falls on the first Tuesday following the first Monday in November. This year, that date is November 3. Registration is required before you can vote.

The majority of states offer online registration, though some allow same-day registration at voting sites. State regulations dictate whether voters can cast their ballots in person on Election Day, use early in-person voting, or vote by mail. Be sure to research your state’s polling sites and voter ID rules before you go.

The midterms are crucial because they decide which party controls Congress. Every one of the 435 U.S. House of Representatives seats (with two-year terms) and roughly a third of the 100 U.S. Senate seats (with staggered six-year terms) are up for election.

Whichever party wins the majority gains control over committee chairs, shapes the legislative priorities, and oversees the approval of federal budgets and laws.

Additionally, a change in congressional power can substantially restrict a president’s policy goals, expand oversight and investigative proceedings, and influence Senate confirmations of federal judges and cabinet members.
